in person worship &

Connection group info

Our plan is to re-resume in person worship on Sunday August 30, 2020. If you attend, please wear your face covering for the foreseeable future. Masks should be worn while entering, exiting, and any time you are moving about the building. Masks can be removed when you are in place for worship.

If you are over 65, have an underlying health issue, or are just not comfortable returning to in person worship just yet then please choose to remain at home. It really is ok. We continue to work out the bugs for our livestream. Each worship service will be available live online and will be recorded for viewing later.

For our livestream services, visit our Facebook page or our Livestream page on this website.

We are also planning to provide a modified Connection Group/Sunday school hour after Labor Day. Look for more details in future communication. (details will include Children, Nursery, Teens, and Adult classes information)

Saturday June 6, 2020

From Pastor Allen

This is the Friday email that is coming as The Saturday Evening Post.

Tomorrow will be the last of the pre-recorded services for Cofer's. Next week we will have in-person services for anyone who feels that it is the best option for them and their families. We will livestream the service on Facebook at 10:00 am for anyone who feels that staying home is their best option.

We will continue to livestream each Sunday. Our sermon plan is to finish 1 Peter in June, then to start a short series in July.

When August rolls around we want to celebrate! We have lots to celebrate!

Did you know that Caleb and Erica McKenney got married? Celebrate!

How about Gabby Dalton and Allexus Leftwhich graduating High School? Congrats!

Don't forget that Pastor Jeff has been here for 10 years! Party is coming!

Hard to believe that Pastor Steve is almost five years in as Senior and Spanish Pastor! !Hora de celebrar!

We can't wait to celebrate! And it will be great having actual people in actual pews next Sunday. Preaching in an empty sanctuary  has not been fun. I am ready for whoever can be there next week.

But in the meantime, let's continue to pray for our country. Let's be contemplative about our role in loving all of our neighbors. Let's ask the Lord to do a work in our hearts before He does a work in anyone else's. Repentance. Reconciliation. Restoration. The work of the Gospel. The Word of our Lord. Let us love in word and deed this week.

(Information to access the Connection Group link and Sunday service were sent in the email to our members. )

tuesday june 2, 2020

From Pastor Jeff:

We are looking forward to resuming in person worship on Sunday June 14, 2020. Hopefully you received a mailing from Cofer's with some details regarding meeting together in our building. Look for additional information during the welcome this Sunday, June 7, 2020.

Along with in person worship we will continue to provide online worship as an option. If you are not yet comfortable meeting in person that is perfectly okay. We want to provide both options, so you can choose what is best for you.

We hope you will join us via Zoom (details to join sent in email) Wednesday evening as we continue discussing the Book of John. We are currently in chapter 5.

Let us know if we can serve you in any way.

See our In Person Information Page here for details.

friday update

may 22, 2020

From Pastor Allen:

As we start the Memorial Day weekend, I can honestly say that I thought we would be having in person services already. However, that is not the case for us and for a lot of our sister churches in Nashville, and around the country. So, when do we meet again in person?

I am pretty confident that we will be announcing our plan next week. Jeff has spent a lot of time, and I mean a lot of time researching, listening to webinars, and thinking about what is best. He presented a plan to me, and we have sent it on to the Deacons for their approval. We think that this time next week the entire church will be briefed on the plan, on our expectations, and what we are hoping to accomplish. Many thanks to Jeff for his efforts in all of this.

During this time of quarantine, we have been able to minister in different ways. Our church has adopted a family from Norman Binkley Elementary, and we have been helping with their weekly groceries. Thanks goes to Judy Lytle and Melanie Hawkins for helping us minister in this way.

We have had two funerals during this time. We have honored the lives of Blanche Hunter and Roy Smith, and have celebrated their faith becoming sight. We continue to pray for Sue Smith and her family, and for the Hunter family as well.

We have been faithful to give during this time. Our church finances have been good during this time, when a lot of other churches have struggled. Thank you for your faithfulness.

Even though we have not met since March 15, we have had some excellent Bible studies on Sunday mornings with the Gleaners and others, and our Zoom studies on Wednesday nights has been a blessing. We even had a drop-in visit from Ronnie Zhang who is staying at State College, PA, for the summer.

We are looking forward to our Quarantine Qamp outing with the teens in July. get your information here to get your registration in by June 1.

And we certainly want to be thankful for this Memorial Day, that we live in the country of the free, and the home of the brave. Those men and women who have given their lives for our country deserve our thoughts and prayers during this holiday. We as Christians should be the first to give honor where it is due.

See you on Sunday! We will be in 1 Peter 4 this week.

friday update

may 8, 2020

From Pastor Allen:

Psalm 98 says to sing to the Lord a new song! Today is a new day! God's mercies are new every morning! Your life is a new song to the Lord today!

We want to be in prayer for Roy Smith, who went home to be with the Lord this morning. We are hearing that the visitation and graveside will be in Huntington, TN on Monday. The church provided a meal for the family tonight. If you'd like to donate to cover these costs, simply donate here and designate "Funeral Meals" or mail a check in to the church with the same designation. Please be in prayer for Sue and the rest of the family during this time.

We are thankful for all of the ladies of our church, and Sunday we celebrate Mother's Day. Make sure to call your mom this Sunday!

-If your family has a youth group member in it, save the dates of July  for our Summer trip. Details are being worked out, but go ahead and make sure that you are available for our biggest (and only) event of the Summer. All youth group members are invited!

tuesday update

may 5, 2020

From Pastor Jeff:

We are all looking forward to worshiping together again soon! It looks like it will be a at least a few more weeks before that is possible.

How will we know when it is the right time to reopen?

  1. First of all, we are submitting to civic authorities and adhering to recommendations from state and local governments. We are closely monitoring progress as we move through the phases.
  2. We want to maintain a good testimony in our community. We feel to reopen the church outside government advise would not communicate appropriately who we are as Christ followers.
  3. Another goal is to help protect the health of our members, as well as our neighbors. We encourage you to remain safer at home as we work toward the time when it is safe to worship together.

What can you do?

  1. Keep up with each other- Check on one another. Contact each other. Pray for one another.
  2. Serve your neighbors where appropriate.
  3. Connect with the church electronically via the various platforms each week. There are devotions posted on Facebook Monday through Friday from the pastoral staff. Use the periodic parent emails and posts to engage your family. Participate in the Wednesday Night Bible Study via Zoom. Attend adult Sunday School each week via Google Meet. View the Sunday worship service on Facebook or the Cofer's website (all links for Zoom and Google Meet are sent in emails only).
  4. Continue in your financial support of the work of God through Cofer's. Your giving  during these days have been a tremendous testimony to your faithfulness!
  5. Pray for the staff as we look for additional ways to serve the church, stay connected, and make decisions regarding the near future.

We want to reopen as soon as it is safe to do so. We absolutely miss worshiping with you in person. Your prayers, patience, support, and understanding during this time are invaluable.

We love you all!

Update: Cofer's Chapel has committed to help support a family in need from Norman Binkley Elementary (where we do Good News Club). We are providing up to $100 per week for 12 weeks for groceries and other household needs. If you would like to help, simply earmark your online donation or mailed in check "Norman Binkley Family Assistance."

Friday update

May 2, 2020

From Pastor Allen:

Good morning, Cofer's Family!

We rejoice that our oldest member, Blanche Hunter, is in the presence of her Savior this morning. Miss Blanche passed away around 8:00 am this morning. Please pray for the family today.

Due to certain restrictions from the Funeral Home, we ask that you do not bring food to the family at visitation. You can, however, bring gift cards to the visitation.

Blanche Hunter Visitation: Saturday May 2, 2020, 3:00-8:00 pm at Springhill Funeral Home in Madison, TN.

Graveside service Sunday May 3, 2020, 2:00 pm at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

You can also mail sympathy cards to the family (address included in email).

We are thankful that giving has remained strong during this time. Thanks so much for your faithfulness in giving for the last seven weeks of quarantine.

The staff is evaluating our plans for reopening the church. Pastor Jeff has been monitoring information from church leaders as well as our state and local officials. We just do not know when we will start meeting together.

What a great study on Wednesday night this past week! Jeff led a tremendous discussion of John 3:1-15. Join us this Wednesday as he will start with a very unfamiliar passage, John 3:16.

Don't forget the Gleaner's Connection group Sunday morning at 9! (see the email for links to join)

See you on Sunday! Kind of!

tuesday update

april 28, 2020

From Jeff Caudill:

I hope you are all doing well, staying safe, and remaining healthy. You continue to be in our prayers.

We are thankful that some people have been able to return to work and others are able to work more than they were earlier.

I am thankful for all of you! I praise the Lord for your prayers. I am thankful for your faithfulness and stewardship. I appreciate your continued service to God and His church in all circumstances. It is a privilege to serve you!

As you pray please continue to remember the following individuals and families:

Blanche Hunter, Dr. Mary Ruth Wisehart, and Roy Smith as he is under Hospice care and is declining. Also pray for those who have been laid off, furloughed, or are experiencing reduced hours and salary due to Covid-19.

If there are ways we can minister to you during these days, please let us know. If you know others in our congregation who need help contact us and we will do our best to assist them.

There are several ways we can stay connected.

  1. Email Updates: We will send out an email update every Tuesday and Friday to keep you informed.

As always, you can contact the staff personally anytime.

friday, april 3, 2020

Good afternoon Cofer's Family,

This Friday afternoon is sunny, so maybe we can all go outside for awhile today and still keep socially distant. Vitamin D is good for us!

We will once again be uploading the sermon to the Cofer's Website and also to Facebook. Instruction on how to do so are included below. Our Sunday School will be at 9:00 am with directions emailed. (If you are not receiving the Tuesday and Friday emails please let Jenny know- jenny@coferschapel.org. We will not put links to private group meetings online.)

We are also prepared to mail a CD or DVD of the sermon to you this week if you are not able to access it online. But we need to know who needs it, and in which format. Please contact Pastor Allen at allen@coferschapel.org or on his cell if you need this to be able to hear or see our services.

We had another really good week in giving! You guys are amazing in your support of our church financially so far. We didn't quite make budget, but we got close, and that is great news! You can continue giving online here or mail a check to 3915 Franklin Pike, Nashville, TN 37204.

Mike and Megan officially leave the church this weekend to start their new ministry at Good Springs FWB Church. We are so proud of them, and will miss them greatly. However, we know that Mike and Megan will do great at their new church. We will say goodbye to them officially this September during our Anniversary Sunday. Mike is going to come back to speak for us, so we will be able to say goodbye.

Update for Sunday

March 29, 2020

We have 3 important updates for you regarding our church and Sunday, March 29, 2020.

For Sunday

March 29, 2020

Cofer's Family,

We miss you and are praying for you and your families. Again, if you need anything, please do not hesitate to ask. Do not call the church office as we are only going to the building a couple times a week to check the mail, etc. Our numbers and contact info can be found in the emails we send out or the church directory.

Thank you all for your patience and understanding as we work to provide online and virtual worship and Bible study during this strange time. We are all navigating new waters and your support is making this all possible!

Sunday, March 29, 2020, 10:00 am CST - you have 2 options to watch.

Option One: Our Website

  • Go to the Media page of our website here: www.coferschapel.org/media
  • Beginning at 10:00 am CST you will see the video (worship & sermon)
  • You may need to refresh your screen if you do not see it right at 10:00 am.

Option Two: Our Facebook Page

  • Go to our Facebook page here: www.facebook.com/coferschapel
  • Beginning at 10:00 am CST you will see the video (worship & sermon).
  • You may need to refresh your page if you do not see it right at 10:00 am.

Some have asked how is the best way to give financially during this time. You can either mail in a check to the office (3915 Franklin Pike, Nashville, TN 37204) or give online here. Either way is perfectly fine.

Thank you and we hope to "see" you this Sunday morning!

Cofer's Family,

The Staff wanted to give you an update on our planning for the next week.

Sunday, March 22, 2020: No Service, Livestream available

Special thanks to our pastors and our A/V team for making this possible.

Wednesday March 25, at 6:30 pm - we hope to have an interactive Bible study online with a way to login remotely for the discussion. Stay tuned!

We will make decisions about each week's services by the Friday before in each case. This allows us the most flexibility in a fluid situation.

The Cofer's Chapel Pastoral Staff

Update as of

Monday March 16, 2020

Cofer's Chapel Family,

We will do our best to keep you informed during the Coronavirus pandemic.

There will be no activities at the church this week. All Wednesday activities have been cancelled.

A decision about Sunday, March 22, will be made later this week.

The staff will be working from home or out in the community for the most part of this week. The church office will be closed. We are still available to minister to you when and if you need us. Please feel free to contact any of the staff via email, text, or cell phone. Please keep in mind we will likely not receive voicemail messages left on the church office phone in a timely manner.

Please remember that the church will continue to have expenses during these challenging days. It is our goal to control expenses as much as possible. By not being at the church building we hope to have a minimal reduction in utilities. We will constantly be monitoring expenditures to control costs. However, expenses will still need to be paid. Although we may need to meet less or not at all for a time, we ask that you remain as faithful as you can in your support of Cofer's. There are several ways for you to give. Donations can be made online here. Checks can be mailed to the church (3915 Franklin Pike, Nashville, TN 37204). Gifts can be dropped off at church or picked up by a staff member (both need to be arranged ahead of time).

We are operating in some uncertain times. We are trusting the Lord to protect and guide us as individuals and as a church.

Please do not hesitate to reach out if you need anything at all. We are here to serve you!

Coronavirus (COVID-19) Info

for cofer's chapel attendees

March 13, 2020

Yes, as of Friday March 13, we are still having services. Please use your own discretion in coming.

Cofer's Family,

My email inbox has been inundated with statements concerning the Coronavirus, or Covid-19.

We are not sure what to do. The big churches, like Cross Point and Long Hollow have told their people to stay home this weekend and watch the live stream.

Brentwood Baptist is going to be open, but they are not passing out bulletins (you can pick your bulletin up) and they say that they have doubled up on hand sanitizer.

The Donelson Fellowship is bringing in volunteers and going over all surfaces with bleach and cleaner. They are also encouraging their older members to stay at home.

We are not a big church like those congregations. But a good percentage of our church is the target demographic of concern for the Coronavirus. Cofer's does not rise to any of the numbers that have been suggested to avoid like 150 people or above. Welch is on Spring Break so we are looking at a lower number of attenders this week anyway.

So what is prudent? What should be the best practice for our church?

The truth is that for some of our people that it would be prudent for them to not come tonight to the Welch College Choir Concert, or this Sunday's services.

If you have not been feeling well, go ahead and stay home. If you have a compromised immune system or respiratory issues, go ahead and stay home. If you are of the more seasoned generations in our church, please consider not coming and staying home.

This is an issue that we consider. If the church doors are open, some of you are going to be here. This is such an admirable trait...but not this week.  And I know that the last thing that works with Cofer's is to tell them not to do something.

The truth is that one option is to go ahead and cancel church just to take the option away from you. In your desire to be faithful you might not be prudent when it comes to your own health.

And we might just do this.

But for now, we are going to trust that all of Cofer's understands that this week it is as prudent to stay home as it is when we have an ice/snow event.

This also means that you don't go to church anywhere else either.

Welch College has issued a statement that they are almost sure that they will have to extend their Spring Break as well in order to be cautious. We are thinking that we may have to do the same.

If you need something picked up for you, or if there is something else we can do for you, please let us know.

Stay safe! Stay well!

We love you all!
